I'm BAAAAAACCCCKKKK!!!!

So it's been a while.  A lot has occurred.  First, I've changed the name of the blog from My Road to Tink to My Road to Health.  The main reason for that is, during my running sabbatical, I was diagnosed with Whooping Cough and as being a pre-diabetic.  So Health is the name of the game right now.  I couldn't run for quite some time because of the Whooping and then we moved so I counted lugging around boxes and furniture as my exercise. But now that we are somewhat settled into our new place, I'm back to running (walking).  Last night was my maiden voyage post Whooping and I was slower than ever but I did it anyway.  It took me 32 minutes to go just over two miles.  I'm super sore today but it's a good, I accomplished something, kind of sore.  I probably won't go tonight but definitely tomorrow and hopefully a few times over the weekend too.
With the diagnosis of pre-diabetes, my focus has changed from training for the Tink half to just getting my weight under control, my sugars under control and getting back into shape.  If the Tink half happens, great, if not, maybe next year.
I have two fun races coming up in a few weeks-the Color Me Rad 5K on the 22nd and Millie's Princess 5K on the 29th.  Hopefully in the next few weeks I can get in enough shape that those races won't be too rough on me.
For the sake of documentation and brutal honesty, here are my fatty fat fats stats right now:
Height: 5'2" (this will not change LOL)
Weight: 173 - My heaviest ever.  I weighed this much when I was 9 months pregnant
Pants Size: 14 - My largest ever, I intend to never ever be able to wear these giant pants again
Pre Diabetic due to weight
Asthma isn't so great due to weight
Sleeping sucks most likely due in large to weight
So why did I let myself get this big, it seems to screw up everything! Remember this, remember how sucky it feels and never come back to this point!

My first 8K

Even though I'd been sick as a dog all week, I ran (walked) my first 8K on Saturday.  It felt great! We were super slow, it took us just under an hour and a half but we averaged about 17 minutes/mile so not as bad as I thought we'd do! I'm hoping to run more than walk during my next race so we'll see!

Jogging stroller

Today we had our maiden voyage with the jogging stroller. The run was much harder than I'd anticipated, especially since I had to constantly answer a barrage of questions like "Hey mom, what's that? Hey mom, where are we going? Hey mom, are you running?"
I only went 1.5 miles tonight in25 minutes but considering I've been sick, forgot to use my inhaler before and am not used to pushing the stroller, I didn't do too bad!

Not as Active as I'd like to be

Well, running while Matt is out of the country is proving to be a bit of a challenge.  On Tuesday night I let Hendrix play at the park while I ran laps around the playground.  He wasn't as interested in playing as he was running after me so I spent my run worrying about him tripping and falling as he often does.  Then when I was only .6 miles into my run, little boy says "Mama, I gotta poop!" Well crap, literally.  There goes my running groove.  By the time he was done it was his bedtime so we called it quits.
Today during a short break at work I went on another quick .73 mile walk with a coworker.  This is going to be a daily occurrence and I'm excited about it.
Today I am getting a jogging stroller.  It's been snowing all day so I don't think it would be wise to drag Hendrix out in the snow.  Maybe tomorrow, we'll see.

A Bit of Inspiration

I've heard the song "Perfect" by Pink countless times but today I really heard it.  Some of the lyrics nearly brought me to tears.  These in particular are ones that I need to start living by:

You're so mean,
When you talk, About yourself, You are wrong.
Change the voices, In your head
Make them like you Instead.

Walking at work

One of my coworkers goes on quick little walks on her 15 minute breaks through the day.  I went with her this morning.  We went 3/4 mile in around 12 minutes.  Not too shabby for wearing work shoes.  Note to self, once new running shoes are procured, bring old ones to work so I can walk in them.

Inaugural Run

I went on my first run last night.  Considering my inactivity level, that I've got old shoes (note to self, buy new ones ASAP) and that my asthma has been crazy this year, I don't think I did too bad.
I ran/walked (admittedly walked more than ran) 2.36 miles in 35.08 minutes. Average minutes/mile 14:54.  Definitely not speedy but not too horrible.  I was exhausted after my run.  Today I'm sore in odd places-namely my left thigh and right butt cheek.  Maybe I run crooked.
Next week I'll be getting a jogging stroller so I can drag the boy person along with me.  Should be interesting how much more difficult it will be for me to run while pushing him than it is to just lug myself around.
I'm tracking my runs with a cool app called Runkeeper. It gives me all the details of how I'm doing, interrupts my music every 5-10 minutes(not sure exactly how often because I didn't really pay attention) to let me know how long I've been running, how far I've gone and my average minutes/mile.  It's pretty freaking cool.
Next run probably won't be until Tuesday after I get the jogging stroller. I expect that run to be not as far and definitely slower but we'll see.
